Carpet colour matching made easy with our bespoke carpets in London

Use our 60 years of experience to find your perfect carpet match

Carpeting, and flooring in general, is one of the most important home décor elements, playing a significant role in your home's aesthetics, adding both personality and style. Many people make the mistake when decorating of choosing the décor colours first rather than choosing carpet colours first…

Whether you are going for single-room redecoration or you need to design your whole house, it is a good idea to look at the flooring first because it will set the tone for your home and can help determine the overall appearance and feel.

But if you already have your colour scheme and have your fixtures in place, it’s time to start carpet colour matching to find the right shade to complement your walls, furniture and any other accessories in the room. But where do you begin with carpet colour matching?

Top tip: Remember to consider how much light the room gets to help you select the best hue.

Carpet colour matching considerations

The colour of a carpet will affect the way a room feels, and it can even influence your mood; old, worn or outdated carpets will have a negative effect on a room, getting the right flooring will help positivity flow. From an interior design perspective, ideally, the colour of your carpets should come from the same colour family as the walls, as well as some of your furniture.

Top tip: Contrasting colours can be added with accessories like bedding, rugs, artwork and cushions.

Choosing colours

Neutral tones blend in easily with any design theme, and if you decide to change the wall colour in the future, it will be easy to colour match. You can create a calm and peaceful ambience in any room with neutral colours or if you are going for a minimalist look, then they are a great option for your carpets and rugs.

Keep in mind that bright-coloured carpets will appear lighter once installed and are great for making a room feel bigger. Dark colours are perfect for adding a dramatic effect to your home and will bring a cosy feel to large rooms.

Using our 60 years’ experience, our team will work with you to get the right match from our extensive range of bespoke carpets in London.

Choosing texture

There are many types of Loop Pile that come in a range of variations, each one will bring a different look and texture. If you want a velvet, super-soft feel underfoot, then Cut Pile is for you. Then there are variable height patterns, hand tufted carpets, frieze, cable… the list goes on!

To discover the right texture for your space, you need to view carpet samples in person – call into us here at Teddington Carpet Centre where we have them for all our ranges including Westex, Cormar Carpet Co, Axminster, Crucial Trading and many more.

Top tip: Colour-blended, patterned and accented neutral carpets can help obscure stains and dirt and also add a splash of personality to a busy household.

Choosing the right type of carpet

The three major fibres used are wool, nylon (polyamide) and polypropylene (polyolefin), with some carpets being made of blends — carpets with 80% wool and 20% nylon is a common blend for quality carpets. Carpets that are made of 100% wool can last for a very long time with proper maintenance.

No one fibre necessarily makes a better carpet, you just need to make sure that it's made of high-quality components and materials. If you want your carpet to last many years, choosing the right manufacturer is key; you want one with the skills to produce a perfectly constructed carpet using these components.
