Axminster patterned carpet

Over the course of the company’s history, our extensive collection of flooring has ranged from fashionably modern to timeless traditional designs. When asked which was my favourite of all time, it was a difficult question to answer, because there have been so many quality carpets. I initially found myself like a child in a sweet shop thinking ‘what shall I choose first!’.

Eventually, the beginning seemed a sensible point of reference, and I reflected on what I knew as a boy as ‘Persian Garden Axminster Patterned Carpet’, made by Carpets of Worth. The colour pictured above was probably the best-seller we had displayed in the shop when I first started working for my Father in 1978. Indeed, I recall it was so popular, I even remember the design number 6/1060 - how sad is that!!

In the late seventies, busy Axminster patterned carpet designs of this type were of course commonplace in the family home. This was long before the beautiful plains and textures, coupled with subtle paint shades, and Laura Ashley wallpaper, that are so popular today.

The beauty of Persian Garden Axminster Patterned Carpet for me was that it didn’t matter how many times you looked at the panels, I always seemed to find new objects and motifs that I had not spotted before, giving it a wealth of colours and possibilities – it was almost as if my imagination was able to get lost in the design.

These pattern types were of course popular in an era when the family used to congregate in one room around the gas fire, and the three-channel TV of an evening. The lounge carpet needed to be hard-wearing and exceptionally practical given the concentrated usage it was subjected to. I simply cannot imagine some of the cream textured loop pile qualities that are popular today being able to handle such local conditions!!

Multi-coloured patterned Axminster Carpet like this was very much the order of the day, and hopefully, any readers of my age might have some similar memories of the colours and designs graced their living rooms. Please do let me know of any memories you may have – I would find them an interesting reading!!

Will still sell my favourite Persian Garden Axminster Patterned Carpet, but of course we also have an extensive range of all types of carpets, by many different carpet designers at Teddington Carpet Centre, ensuring you will be able to find just what you want. If you can’t find what you need, we will contact any carpets factory that we think may be able to help. But we are confident that our wide range of products will meet your design requirements, whatever your budget, whether you are looking to carpet a family home, office, shop, library or hospital.

Contacting us could not be easier, either drop in, give us a call or fill out your personal information on the form here, and we will endeavour to contact you within one working day.
