Marmoleum Flooring in London

One of the most exciting floor types I have had the pleasure to work with during my career is traditional linoleum. ‘Lino’ as it is more commonly known has evolved over 150 years and has been established in more recent times by Forbo Flooring via their Marmoleum Brand Name manufactured in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

When I first recall selling lino floors, the range was made up of five plain colours (brown being far and away the best seller!) and was referred to as ‘oil cloth!’ Back in those days customers’ used to have it laid in their galley kitchens long before the whole house was centrally heated and you used to wrap a blanket around you to dash in to put the kettle on!

Nowadays, Marmoleum is constructed from 97% raw materials is CO2 neutral and is not only natural and sustainable but features high quality innovative design in 300 colour choices….shows how fantastically a product can evolve over time.

The manufacturing process adds Linseed Oil to Pine Rosin which is cured over two weeks to create a flexible binder (Linoleum Cement) – Wood Flour, Grained Limestone and Colour Pigments are added to form a firm homogenous surface which is then bonded to a natural jute backing.

Aside of it’s ‘environmentally friendly properties which are now recognised as more important than ever….Marmoleum blends versatility and resilience along with vibrant colours and the most flexible options of design making it a very popular choice for prestige domestic and commercial installations alike.

An additional beauty of such a natural product is due to a process within manufacture called ‘stove yellowing’ once exposed to sunlight the product colour becomes even more vibrant – a favourite one liner being that Marmoleum Flooring is just like a fine wine… ”it improves with age”.
